The project that started it all, the Composer Diversity Database provides users the ability to search and browse for composers from underrepresented groups using a myriad of over 30 categories. Websites and online resources connected to almost 4,000 composers can be explored through this easy to use online tool.
This database currently houses two important catalogs of works (the CMF: Wind Band Catalog and the CMF: Orchestral Catalog), which were singlehandedly created by the Institute for Composer Diversity’s Master Database Builder, Christian Michael Folk. It includes search criteria related to duration, instrumentation, location, composer demographics, and more.
search. program. perform. repeat.
Simply click one or multiple checkboxes, select a location, or enter a name. Each action will filter only the names that fall under that category. Combining filters (i.e. living-female-chorus-South Asian) is a very effective strategy when browsing or searching the databases.
